Sylhet Strikers registered a narrow eight-run win over Khulna Tigers in their match of the Dutch-Bangla Bank Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Batting first Sylhet Strikers piled up a mammoth total of 182 for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 20 overs and then restricted Khulna Tigers to 174 for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs.
Sylhet Strikers faced an early debacle as they lost two wickets for 15 runs.
Opener Rony Takukdar and second-down Zakir Hasan rescued their team from danger contributing together 106 runs for the third wicket partnership before Rony Talukdar was caught by Ziaur Rahman off Abu Hider when Sylhet’s total was 121 for the loss of three wickets.
Zakir Hasan remained unbeaten with 75 runs. He hit six sixes and three fours in his 46-ball stormy innings. Zakir Hasan was adjudged the Man of the Match for his terrific innings.
Rony Talukdar notched up a superb 56. His 44-ball knock was belted with five fours and two sixes.
After Rony’s dismissal, Zakir Hasan and Aaron Jones built a remarkable partnership adding together 29 runs in the fourth wicket stand before Aaron Jones was caught behind by Mahidul Islam Ankon off Ziaur Rahman when Sylhet’s score was 150 for the loss of four wickets.
Aaron scored 20 made six deliveries featuring three sixes.
Jaker Ali (0) was bowled out by Ziaur Rahman when Sylhet’s total was 150 for the loss of five wickets.
Zakir Hasan and Ariful Haque put on together 32 runs in the unbroken sixth wicket stand before Sylhet’s innings came to an end.
Ariful Haque remained unbeaten with 21 runs. He hit one six and one four in his 13-ball innings.
Abu Hider and Ziaur Rahman claimed two wickets each instead of 25 and 39 runs respectively, while Nasum Ahmed picked up one wicket conceding 17 runs.
William Bosisto and Mehidy Hasan Miraz of Khulna Tigers fought back adding together 34 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Mehidy Hasan Miraz (15) was caught by Ariful Haque off Rubel Mia when Khulna’s total was 81 for the loss of four wickets.
Mohammad Nawaz and Mahidul Islam Ankon put on together 32 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before Mohammad Nawaz was caught by Zakir Hasan off Tanzim Hasan when Khulna’s score was 130 for the loss six wickets.
Mahidul Islam Ankon and Abu Hider Scored together 35 runs in the eighth wicket partnership before Abu Hider (14) was caught by Tanzim Hasan off Rubel Mia when Khulna’s total was 173 for the loss of eight wickets.
Opener William Bosisto hit a polished 43. His 40-ball innings had five fours.
Mohammad Nawaz hit a quick-fire 33. He struck three fours and two sixes in his 18-ball knock.
Mahidul Islam made 28 from 16 balls including three fours and a sixer.
Rubel Mia, Reece Topley, Tanzim Hasan bagged a pair of wickets each for 28, 45 and 45 runs respectively.
