The Jagannath University Teachers’ Association has issued a 72-hour ultimatum with three demands following the attack on the university’s Proctor, Professor Dr Muhammad Tazammol Hoque.

The ultimatum was given during a human chain protest at the university’s Shaheed Minar Chattar on Wednesday at 12pm, condemning the assault on the proctor.

The three demands are to bring the attackers to justice, form an investigation committee into the attack, and remove the bus and laguna stands around the university.

During the protest, the teachers said that within the next 72 hours, all individuals involved in the attack must be brought under the law, the university administration must form an investigation committee, and all bus and laguna stands around the university should be removed from the area near Ray Shaheb Bazar.

They mentioned that attacks on university staff and students are attacks on the university itself, and they are calling for exemplary punishment for the attackers.

They also pointed out that during the attack, the perpetrators said: “We couldn’t find Jagannath University students, but we’ve found the teachers-let’s beat them up,” highlighting that the attack was premeditated and a threat to the university.
