Former member of parliament (MP) for Dhaka-10 and former FBCCI’s president Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin has been arrested. He is a suspect in a case filed at Uttara West Police Station related to the killing of a student during the anti-discrimination student movement.
Uttara (west) Police arrested Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin on Wednesday evening from his residence in Sector 4 of Uttara, Dhaka.
Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Hafizur Rahman said the police received a tip-off about his location. Acting on the information, they conducted a raid at the house and arrested him.
Mohiuddin is accused in a murder case related to the anti-discrimination student movement. He is being arrested in connection with that case. The police will seek his remand when he is produced in court on Thursday morning.
Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin was elected as the Bangladesh Awami League (AL) candidate for the Dhaka-10 in 2020. He is a pro-Awami League business leader and has previously served as the president of both FBCCI and BGMEA.
