Abahani register 4th win in BPL

Abahani Limited registered their fourth victory in the Bashundhara Group Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football when they beat Bangladesh Police Football Club by 2-0 goals was held at Bhasha Shoinik Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla on Saturday.

In the proceeding, forwards Arman Foysal Akash and Shahriar Emon scored one each for Abahani Limited who led the first half by 1-0 goal.

Akash put Abahani Limited ahead in the 23rd minute and Emon sealed the victory scoring the second goal in the 89th minute after the resumption of the match.

Police, who suffered their third defeat with the day’s outcome, failed to produce any real move in the proceeding and eventually they had to leave the field with empty hand.

The day’s win saw that the traditional sky blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani raised their tally to 12 points from five matches while Bangladesh Police Football Club remained at their previous credit of six points playing the same number of matches.

Earlier, Abahani Limited beat Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club by 2-0 goals in their league opening match, edged past Dhaka Wanderers Club by 1-0 goal in their second match, lost to arch rival Mohammedan by 1-0 goal and defeated holders Bashundhara Kings by 1-0 goal.

Abahani will play their next match against Fortis Football Club on January 3 while Bangladesh Police Football Club will face holders Bashundhara Kings on the same day.

In the other match Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society continued their prolific form as they thrashed Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club by 6-1 goals in the Bashundhara Group Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football held at Shaheed Barkat Stadium in Gazipur.

Ghanaian forward Samuel Boateng and defender Rajon Hawlader scored a brace each while defender Taj Uddin, forward Nabib Newaj Jibon supported them with a lone goal apiece for the winning side in the one-sided affairs.

Uzbek forward Akobir Turaev scored a consolation goal for Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club.
Samuels opened an account scoring the first goal for Rahmatganj in the 25th minute but the lead lasted for a few minutes when Turaev restored the parity for Fakirerpool in the 28th minute from a spot kick.

After the resumption, Rahmatganj again took lead when Rajon scored the second goal in the 54th minute and Taj Uddin further widened Rahmatganj margin scoring the third goal for Rahmatganj in the 62nd minute.

Samuels opened the flood gate scoring his second and fourth for Rahmatganj in the 72nd minute while Jibon made the score line 5-0 in the 66th minute.

Rajon sealed the victory scoring his second and sixth goal for Rahmatganj in the 90+6th minute of the match.

With the day’s emphatic victory, the traditional old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj secured 12 points from five matches while Fakirerpool remained at their previous collection of three points playing the same number of matches.
