Director General of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal has stated that it is too soon to determine whether the fire at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday was an accident or an act of sabotage.
Speaking on Friday after a government probe committee visited the site, Brig Gen Jahed emphasised that the investigation is ongoing, and no conclusive findings have been reached.
“It is too early to comment on whether the fire was caused by sabotage or was an accident. We are here to observe the site, and further details will be shared once the investigation is complete,” he said.
The government has already taken steps to enhance the investigation by dissolving the initial seven-member probe committee and forming a new eight-member committee.
The new committee is chaired by the senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, with the Fire Service and Civil Defence director general serving as the member secretary.
The committee has begun its work to uncover the cause of the fire, and updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
