A massive fire ravaged the Ambag area of Konabari, Gazipur, at midnight on Wednesday (December 25), completely destroying 57 houses in two colonies.
The blaze, which began at approximately 12:15 am, was brought under control by the fire service after 1.5 hours of rigorous effort, according to Mohammad Mamun, Deputy Assistant Director of Gazipur Fire Service.
“The fire spread rapidly, affecting 70 to 80 houses, which housed people from various professions. Initially, two units from Konabari Modern Fire Service responded to the emergency, and later, two more units from Sarabo Modern Fire Service joined the effort. It took the combined strength of all four units to control the blaze by 1:30 am,” Mamun stated.
While the fire completely destroyed the belongings of 57 houses, firefighters successfully prevented the blaze from spreading to several hundred other residences in the area.
The cause of the fire and the total extent of the damages are yet to be determined, pending an ongoing investigation, Mamun added.
No casualties have been reported as of now. Further updates are expected as authorities assess the situation.
