The mystery surrounding the gruesome murder of seven sailors on the cargo vessel MV Al Bakhira on the Meghna River in Haimchar, Chandpur, has been unraveled, according to RAB’s Director of Legal and Media Wing, Lieutenant Colonel Munim Ferdous.
He revealed that Irfan Akash Mondal killed the ship’s master, Golam Kibria, and six others out of frustration over prolonged unpaid wages and mistreatment.
Following Irfan’s arrest, preliminary interrogation disclosed shocking details. RAB reported that Golam Kibria had withheld wages for eight months and subjected the crew to abusive behavior. Enraged, Irfan plotted and executed the murders.
RAB officials further explained that Irfan bought three strips of sleeping pills from a market in Pabna while on a supply trip. He mixed the drugs into the crew’s meals, rendering them unconscious. He then used a Chinese axe, originally kept on board for security, to brutally murder the victims.
RAB revealed that Irfan wore gloves during the act to avoid leaving evidence. After ensuring all seven were dead, he steered the ship to Haimchar and escaped in another trawler. According to RAB, Irfan initially targeted Golam Kibria, but upon being witnessed by others, he killed them as well.
