Spokesperson of Foreign Affairs Ministry Mohammad Rafiqul Alam said on Tuesday that if India does not respond to the letter regarding the repatriation of deposed former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, further actions will be taken.

He made this announcement during the weekly briefing held on Tuesday afternoon. He said a diplomatic note was handed over to Delhi last Monday regarding the repatriation of Sheikh Hasina.

“So far, we have not received any response through official channels. We will wait for the Indian government’s reply, and further actions will be taken based on their response,” he said.

He mentioned that if no reply is received, a reminder note will be sent to India. “The verbale note is part of the entire process. According to the extradition agreement, there is no specific time-frame for a response to the letter—it depends on the nature of the matter,” he added.

He further mentioned that the Indian government has been notified of Bangladesh’s concerns over Sheikh Hasina’s virtual speeches, which she has been delivering to various countries while residing in India.

During the briefing, Rafiqul Alam also spoke about the Rohingya issue. He said all agencies, including the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), are on high alert to prevent any new illegal crossings from Myanmar.

He said, “Discussions are underway with the Polish government to establish their embassy in Bangladesh and a trade delegation from the United Kingdom is scheduled to visit Bangladesh in January.”
