Libya to hire skilled BD workers

Libya, a long time friend of Bangladesh, has expressed keen interest in hiring more skilled and professional Bangladeshi workers to assists in various development projects undergoing there.

The Libyan Ambassador to Bangladesh, Abdul Mutalib SM Suleiman, expressed his government’s desire during a courtesy call with Foreign Secretary Mohammad Jashim Uddin at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.

The Ambassador also conveyed Libya’s intention to increase imports of ready-made garments and jute products from Bangladesh.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening long-term cooperation as they prepare to celebrate the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Libya next year.

During the meeting, Foreign Secretary Uddin emphasized the need to enhance cooperation in agriculture, promote people-to-people connectivity, and increase business exchanges.

He also stressed the importance of establishing stronger ties between the Chambers of Commerce of both countries to facilitate trade and investment.

Additionally, the Foreign Secretary called on the Libyan side to expedite the finalisation of an agreement regarding visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic and official passports. This would be an important step to further enhance diplomatic relations.

Ambassador Suleiman acknowledged the challenges of irregular migration and informed that Libya is working on implementing an electronic registration system to address these issues.
This initiative is part of Libya’s efforts to better manage migration and ensure the protection of migrant workers, he said.

Foreign Secretary Uddin praised the significant contributions made by Bangladeshi professionals and workers to Libya’s economy.

He reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to continuing the regular migration of skilled workers and professionals to Libya.

Both sides agreed to expedite the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that would cover a wide range of issues to facilitate high-level visits and enhance bilateral consultations.

The MOU aims to further deepen and broaden the cooperation between Bangladesh and Libya in various sectors.
