One person was killed in a massive fire that broke out at a button factory in Gazipur’s Sreepur municipality on Sunday.
On information, seven firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after two hours of hectic maneuvering, the Fire Service said.
The fire broke out at the factory named Phenasemicon in Bhanganhati area at 2pm. Mahmudul Hasan, in charge of Sreepur Fire Service, confirmed the matter to the media in the evening.
According to locals, combustible chemicals were stored in the factory. The chemical containers exploded with loud bangs, one after another.
A Fire Service official said, “Before our arrival, we received reports of two or three injuries. Upon reaching the factory, we discovered the body of a man inside. His identity has not yet been confirmed.”
Mamun confirmed that the fire has been brought under control and added: “The dumping process is currently under way, and it will take some time to complete.”
The cause of the fire and extent of damage could not be known immediately, the fire service official said.
