A fire erupted at a button factory in Bhangnahati, Sreepur upazila of Gazipur district on Sunday, prompting emergency services to respond to the scene.
Fire Service and Civil Defence Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) Station Officer Khairul Islam Rony said, “The fire started at the factory around 1:45pm and spread soon.”
Local people said they heard the sound of explosions from the spot, possibly due to the presence of chemicals at the factory.
Smoke billowing from the factory covered the whole area, creating panic among people. On information, four firefighting units rushed to the spot and three more units joined later to douse the flame.
However, what caused the fire could not be known immediately.
The firefighters are struggling to extinguish the blaze due to lack of water sources in the area.
