BSS, Dhaka :

Bangladesh stand-in captain Litton Das credited their team effort for a first ever T20 International series victory on West Indies.

Although Bangladesh had won a T20I series against West Indies back in 2018, two of the three T20Is which Bangladesh won to seal the series, were played in USA’s Florida.

The series victory came after they were surprisingly whitewash by West Indies in their strongest zone ODI format. Little gave Bangladesh a chance to win the T20 series, a format in which they have been vulnerable always. But the way they turned the tide was amazing to see, said Litton.

“It’s all about a team effort. We are in the good flow at the moment and we have to come and play good cricket again,” Liton said after taking the unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series on WEdnesday.

But Bangladesh had to fight hard to win the first T20 by seven runs. In second game, they toiled little, thanks to Shamim Patwari and the bowlers, who continued to be impressive with the cherry.

Bangladesh just piled up 129-7 with Patwari making 17 ball-35 not out on a tough surface. The bowlers then led by Taskin Ahmed bundled West Indies out for just 102.

“I’m very happy, not only me but all the Bangladeshi people. We were looking at such a win,” Liton remarked.

“When I faced the first-ball I knew it was very difficult to bat on this pitch, thanks to Shamim, he batted really well. Credit goes to all the bowlers. When we take wickets, whoever come to the bowling they give us wickets.”

After playing a key role in the first match, Patwari once again played a crucial knock to make his comeback series memorable.

“I’m so very happy, after a long time I have been back in the national team, I’m happy. My role is a finisher in the team and my role is to hit the ball. Last few months I have worked hard,” Patwari said.

West Indies captain Rovman Powell said the batting group let them down even though the target was not tougher one.

“At the start we made the right decision (to bowl first). When we look at how we get out, we have to rectify that. We felt that it is a different pitch, in the past it was low and slow, now a little bit more grass cover, felt it will come on,” owell said.

“Disappointing, as a batting group we have let down ourselves miserably in the last few series. We have to reflect on things individually and then look at it collectively. The bowlers did well but as a batting group we have not come to the party and we are struggling to put in a complete game.”
