BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on Tuesday said reforms in the country must be endorsed in parliament through a democratic process with the people’s mandate.

“There is no use of telling us about reforms. Reforms should take place with people’s mandate through a democratic process in parliament,” he said during a discussion.

The Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB) organized the discussion titled “Martyred President Ziaur Rahman and Today’s Bangladesh” at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

Amir Khosru emphasized that any future reforms must come through correction and filtration within the democratic process.

“Reforms are part of the democratic process, and they belong to the people of Bangladesh,” he added.

The BNP leader also reiterated the BNP plans to form a national government in the near future with the people’s mandate and fully implement its 31-point reform proposal in parliament.

Speaking at the same event, Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, another BNP standing committee member, said that the BNP has carried out reforms over time in alignment with the people’s hopes and expectations.

He noted that BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman began implementing state reforms from his very first day in office to restore order and drive economic progress.

“All significant reforms and positive changes in Bangladesh have come through BNP. No matter how much other people talk about reforms, BNP has shown how to reform the country,” he remarked.

Dr Zahid urged BNP leaders and activists to strengthen public support to ensure the implementation of the party’s 31-point reform proposal.
