Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury stated that instructions have been given to the concerned department to increase police patrols late at night to prevent snatching and robbery incidents in the capital.

He made this statement following the meeting of the Advisory Committee on Law and Order, held at the Home Ministry meeting room on Sunday, where he also presided over the session.

The Advisor mentioned that various issues were discussed during the meeting, including security concerns for December 16, December 25, and December 31. The law and order situation and traffic problems were also part of the discussion.

He added that it was decided to further improve the current law and order situation. “Law and order must be enhanced in any situation.

We need to ensure that everyone can celebrate December 16 safely, and those responsible for maintaining law and order should do so effectively,” he said.

In response to a question, the Home Affairs Advisor said that there were no concerns about the celebrations for December 16 or December 25. “It will be the same this year as in previous years,” he assured.

Regarding the increase in snatching incidents in Dhaka, the Advisor acknowledged the rise in such crimes.

“Snatching and robberies have increased in Dhaka, which is why we have given instructions to the police. These incidents usually happen at night, so patrols will be increased at night,” he said.

Chowdhury assured that this year’s celebrations would proceed as usual, with enhanced security measures in place to safeguard public order. “There is nothing unusual this year; it will be just as secure as in previous years,” he said.

The move to ramp up police patrols comes as part of ongoing efforts to curb street crime and restore a sense of security in the city, which has seen an uptick in reported snatching incidents in recent months.

Authorities are hopeful that the increased police presence will deter criminals and reduce such crimes, ensuring safer streets for the residents of Dhaka.
