At least two people were killed (beaten to death) , in a mob lynching on suspected of being cattle in Kishoreganj ‘s Ashtagram haor on Saturday morning.
The incident took place at Deoghar Government Primary School in Austagram upazila on Saturday at 7:30 am.
The deceased were identified as Nasir Uddin (30), son of Hiru Mia of Kagoji village in Ashtagram upazila, and Shahjahan Mia (40), son of Charu Mia of Chatalpar village in Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria.
Additional SP (Crime & Ops), Md.Al-Amin Hossain , told the New Nation that “Upon receiving news that Nasir and Shahjahan had brought a buffalo by boat from neighboring Manoharpur, the local people caught them from the banks of the Ludda river in Deoghar area and tied them up at the Deoghar Government Primary School. When the news spread, thousands of people went there and beat them to death.”
A mob cannot beat someone up on suspicion of being a theif like this.Everyone has the right to seek legal help. Action will be taken after investigation the incident, Additional SP Al-Amin added.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Austagram Police Station, Md. Ruhul Amin said that “There are multiple theft and robbery cases and arrest warrants against the two deceased at Nasirnagar Police Station. The buffalo has been recovered, but the boat could not be identified. In addition to taking legal action in this incident.
Two bodies have been sent to Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital (SSNIMCH) morgue for autopsy.”
