South Indian superstar Allu Arjun was arrested on Friday in connection with a stampede that occurred outside Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre on December 3.
The incident, which claimed the life of a woman, took place during an unscheduled appearance by the actor at the screening of his much-anticipated film, Pushpa 2: The Rule, reports NDTV, reports UNB.
Allu Arjun was taken into custody from his residence in Jubilee Hills and transported to the Chikkadpally Police Station in presence of his father, prominent filmmaker Allu Arvind, and other family members, the report said.
Following the arrest, the 41-year-old actor filed a petition seeking a postponement of his detention until Monday. A hearing on the petition is scheduled for 2:30 pm on Friday.
Hyderabad Police had previously filed a case against Allu Arjun, members of his security team, and the management of Sandhya Theatre, it added.
The investigation centres on their roles in the stampede, which reportedly broke out as large crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of the actor.
