Former Land Minister and Ex-Lawmaker from Khulna-5 constituency Naryan Chandra Chanda has been put on a one-day remand on charge of helping to adduct and rape a woman. Judge of Khulna Metropolitan Magistrate Court-1 Rakibul Islam passed the order on Thursday.
Police produced Naryan before the court and pleaded to place him on a five-day remand in a case filed under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Advocate Mominul Islam, lawyer of the complainant and Khulna Divisional Coordinator of Bangladesh Human Rights Implementation Association, confirmed the matter.
Golam Rasul, a cousin of the victim filed the case with Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 against Ex-Land Minister Naryan Chandra Chanda and Ex-Dumuria upazila Chairman Gazi Ezaz Ahmad, among others, on October 9, 2024 to this end.
In the petition, the complainant alleged that ex-Dumuria UP Chairman Ezaz raped the victim several times alluring to marry her.
Earlier on October 6, former Land Minister Narayon Chandra Chanda was arrested from Jhenaidah as he attempted to flee India crossing the border illegally.
