Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) of Faridpur’s Sadarpur Al Mamun has been immediately recalled following his comment that “Awami League will return.”
Public Administration Ministry’s Senior Secretary Mohammad Mokhlesur Rahman has directed the district commissioner to implement the withdrawal order. Furthermore, disciplinary action will be taken against the UNO by Thursday, reports media.
On Wednesday, Head of the Reform Commission Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury held a meeting with local dignitaries, representatives of the anti-discrimination student movement, and members of the Public Administration Reform Commission at the Faridpur District Commissioner’s office conference room.
During the meeting, Anisur Rahman, a representative of the anti-discrimination student movement, said, “A memorial meeting was recently held in Sadarpur to honour the martyrs of the movement, with UNO Al Mamun as the chief guest.
“In his speech, he said, ‘No prescription from Delhi will work in Bangladesh.’ Later, UNO Al Mamun called me for a conversation, and he attempted to convey through his gestures and subtle tactics that Awami League will be back, today or tomorrow.” Following the allegation, Public Administration Ministry’s Senior Secretary Md Mokhlesur Rahman instructed District Commissioner Kamrul Ahsan Talukdar to withdraw the executive officer immediately. However, UNO Al Mamun has denied making any such comments.
Secretary Mohammad Mokhlesur Rahman expressed the same opinion with the student, stating, “I agree with you.”
He said, “This UNO will be withdrawn by today, and after returning to the ministry tomorrow, suspend him. I am saying this publicly, how can a person have such audacity?”
When asked about the allegation, UNO Al Mamun denied making any such comments. He said, “I did not say anything of that sort. When I spoke to them, leaders of BNP and Jamaat were also present. No such a statement was made.”
