Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafikul Alam said on Tuesday that a total of 88 cases have been filed in the country regarding incidents of communal violence from August 5 to October 22 and 70 people have been arrested on charges of involvement in communal attacks.
He made this disclosure during a press briefing on Tuesday afternoon at the Foreign Service Academy.
Shafikul Alam also mentioned that updates on the incidents that occurred after October 22 will be provided soon.
Meanwhile, during a dialogue with the chief advisor of the interim government on Thursday, the top leaders of the Muslim, Hindu, Christian, and Buddhist communities said there is no communal division in Bangladesh. They emphasised that people of all religions live in peace and harmony in the country.
At the beginning of the meeting, the chief advisor addressed the religious leaders, saying, “In the current situation of the country, many questions have arisen in people’s minds. The purpose of sitting with them was to find answers to those questions.”
He recalled that immediately after the July coup attempt, when this government was formed, he had made a sincere appeal at the airport to everyone, saying, “We are one family. We may have different opinions, different religions, and different customs, but we are all members of the same family.”
He emphasised that despite differences, they are not enemies of each other. “We all stand together. Our identity is that we are Bangladeshis, members of the same family,” he added.
