EC gets 4 new committees

The Election Commission (EC) has established four new committees, each headed by one of its commissioners, to develop and provide recommendations on various aspects of its operations.

The committees were formed in accordance with sub-rule 2 of rule 3 of the Election Commission Rules of Procedure, 2010, and separate gazette notifications were issued on Thursday.

The Law and Rules Reform Committee, led by Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud, will review all laws and regulations of the Election Commission Secretariat, including current electoral laws, and propose recommendations to ensure their compatibility with the constitution.

The Appointment, Promotion, Administrative Reform, Rearrangement and Skill Development Committee, led by Election Commissioner
Tahmida Ahmad, will focus on administrative and skill development reforms.

The Committee on Redrawing Boundaries, Registration of Political Parties, and Election Preparation, headed by Election Commissioner Md Anwarul Islam Sarker, will handle electoral boundary issues, party registration, polling station setup, and oversight of election officials.

The Committee on National Identity Card, Voter List and IT in Election Management, chaired by Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Abdul Fazal Md Sanaullah, will focus on national ID cards, voter lists, and the application of information technology in managing elections.

Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin, along with the four new election commissioners, took their oath of office on November 24, administered by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed at the Supreme Court.

Earlier, on November 21, President Mohammed Shahabuddin appointed AMM Nasir Uddin as the new CEC and the four election commissioners under section 118 (1) of the constitution.
