An operation was conducted against various prohibited vehicles including CNG-driven auto-rickshaws on the Bhairab highway in Kishoreganj.
Bhairab, Highway Police conducted a special operation in kamalpur area on Dhaka-Sylhet highway on Sunday.
In the operation, 10 CNG-powered auto-rickshaws were seized and a case was filed for lack of necessary documents including vehicle number, driving license.
The Officer in Charge( OC)in BhairabHighway Police Station, Md. Saju Miah said, Our borders are up to Itakhla in Narsingdi, Pirijpur in Bhairab and Bajitpur. Although all types of vehicles ply on regional roads, CNG-powered auto-rickshaws and battery-powered auto-rickshaws are prohibited on highways. On the orders of the higher authorities, a special operation was conducted on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway and a case was filed against 10 CNG.
According to locals, CNG-powered auto-rickshaws ply on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway to Bhairab, Mahmudabad, Narayanpur, Baraichha and Morjal. Small accidents happen every day. Many times big cars collide head-on with each other trying to save CNG. Casualties often occur. Meanwhile, the CNG drivers clashed with the police on the Narsingdir-Dhaka highway when CNG traffic was blocked on the highway.
