Northern region shivers in cold, temperature drops again

Latest New

NN Online:

The cold wave intensifies in the northern region of Bangladesh, with Panchagarh’s Tetulia experiencing a further drop in temperature due to its proximity to the Himalayas. Chilly winds and light fog have enveloped the area, creating a wintery atmosphere. Over the past week, the temperature in Tetulia has been fluctuating between 11°C and 16°C.

On Friday (November 29), the lowest recorded temperature in Tetulia at 6 a.m. was 11.4°C, down from Thursday’s (November 28) minimum of 12.1°C, which was also the lowest in the country. The data was confirmed by Jitendra Nath Roy, an official at the first-class weather observatory in Panchagarh.

Morning and nighttime cold winds from the Himalayas have intensified, causing difficulties for the locals. Despite the chilly weather, laborers were seen engaging in their daily activities, including stone collection from rivers and Boro paddy cultivation.

Residents report that the intensity of the cold has decreased during the day due to sunshine, bringing some relief. However, cold-related illnesses such as diarrhea, pneumonia, asthma, and respiratory issues have surged. Hospitals and clinics in the district are witnessing an influx of patients seeking treatment for these ailments.

Despite the biting cold, daily wage earners continue their work, braving the weather to sustain their livelihoods. The temperature is expected to drop further in the coming days, according to local meteorologists.

The situation highlights the resilience of the region’s people, who navigate both the harsh weather and its associated challenges.
