Hundreds of garment workers from Mahmud Jeans Limited on Thursday staged a protest and blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway in the Chandra area of Kaliakair upazila, Gazipur, demanding their unpaid wages.
The demonstration brought traffic to a standstill, leaving commuters stranded for hours.
Confirming the matter, Naujor Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rais Uddin said, “The workers took to the streets early on Thursday morning, citing non-payment of their salaries for October. The protest escalated quickly, paralyzing vehicular movement on both sides of the busy highway and causing significant disruptions.”
Police and army personnel were deployed to the scene to manage the situation. Efforts were underway to disperse the protesters and restore traffic flow.
