The arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, the spokesperson of the Bangladesh Combined Sanatani Jagoron Alliance and head of the Pundarik Dham temple in Chattogram, has sparked protests outside the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) office.

Around 30-40 leaders from the Sanatani Jagoron Mancha gathered in front of the DB office on Minto Road on Monday, to voice their strong opposition to his detention.

The protestors condemned the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna, who was apprehended earlier that day at Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport by DB police. The protestors, led by members of the Sanatani Jagoron Mancha, expressed their outrage and vowed to continue their demonstration by moving towards Shahbagh.

“Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari’s arrest is an attempt to silence the voice of the Sanatani community. We demand his immediate release,” said one of the protestors.

The arrest took place around 4:30 PM on Monday, as confirmed by Additional Police Commissioner of DB, Rezaul Karim Mallik.

According to sources, the arrest is linked to an ongoing case filed against Chinmoy Krishna in Chattogram, where he is accused of disrespecting the national flag during a rally held by the Sanatani Jagoron Mancha on October 25.

The case was filed by former BNP leader Firoz Khan, accusing Chinmoy Krishna of insulting the national flag after the Chattogram rally. Shortly after the event, a sedition charge was brought against him.

This legal action follows a series of activities and public demonstrations led by the Sanatani Jagoron Mancha, including a recent rally in Rangpur, where the newly formed “Bangladesh Combined Sanatani Jagoron Alliance” (BSCJ) raised eight demands related to the rights and welfare of the Hindu community in Bangladesh.

Following the incident in Chattogram, members of the Sanatani Jagoron Mancha have been actively protesting, calling for the restoration of their rights and the protection of religious freedoms for the Hindu community in the country.
