Staff Reporter :

On Sunday (24 November), police removed protesters who were attempting to hold a mass feast in front of the Bangla daily Prothom Alo’s office in the Karwan Bazar area of the capital.

A group of people, including teachers and students from various Islamic institutes, gathered in the afternoon to protest what they described as the newspaper’s pro-Indian stance.

The organisers reportedly slaughtered a cow, intending to feed it to the participants. However, in the evening, the police arrived and dispersed the protesters.

A video of the incident showed scuffles between some protesters and the police.

Tejgaon Police Station OC Mubarak Hossain told The Business Standard that the rally was being held without permission, prompting the authorities to disperse the crowd.

Earlier in the week, a similar protest had taken place on Thursday, and the following day, another protest was held in front of the office of the English daily The Daily Star.

During this protest, it was announced that cows would be slaughtered and a feast would be held in front of both newspapers’ offices.
