Baharul Alam – former chief of the special branch of police- has been appointed as the new inspector general of police (IGP) of Bangladesh, following a significant reshuffle within the country’s police force. Along with this change, Sazzad Ali has been named the new Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner.
Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud made this disclosure on Wednesday at a press briefing held in Foreign Services Academy over the outcomes of the meeting of council of advisers chaired by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus.
He said, “A major change has come today in the police. Former SB chief Baharul Alam has been given the charge as inspector general of police. Sheikh Sazzad Ali has been given the new charge as the DMP commissioner.
“There is a latest development today. You know we’ve been facing challenges regarding the law and order from the very beginning and the government has brought changes in the police administration to strengthen law and order and ensure public safety,” he said.
