Hundreds of Students of Dhaka Residential School and College blocked the Mirpur Road in front of their institution in the capital, demanding the admission of students on the basis of merit cancelling the lottery system.
Breaking open the entrance gate, the agitated students took to the street in front of their institution after 10 AM, causing gridlock on both sides of Mirpur Road. During this time, they were chanting various slogans.
Confirming the matter, Mohammadpur Model Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ali Iftekhar Hasan said that efforts are being made to calm the agitated students.
The protesters said the ongoing lottery system should be revoked and returned to the admission test as the lottery system creates discrimination.
They now demand merit-based admissions. Earlier, the students campaigned online in support of their demands and carried out the blockade as scheduled.
