World diabetes day 2024: ‘Conquer diabetes with calm and care’

Dhaka Medical College Teachers Association brings out a cycle rally in the city marking the World Diabetes Day-2024 on Thursday.

Various organizations on Thursday observed World Diabetes Day across Bangladesh including Diabetes Association, BADAS Paediatric Care and Research Centre (PDRC) with different medical colleges and hospitals holding awareness events nationwide.

With the theme ‘Diabetes: Let Healthy Living Be Our Commitment,’ this year’s highlights the importance of adopting lifestyle changes to prevent and manage diabetes.

BADAS Paediatric Care and Research Centre (PDRC) arranged a program to celebrate World Diabetes Day at BIRDEM Women and Children Hospital, Segunbagicha, Dhaka. The main theme of the program is diabetes and well being.

The program starts with an art work session participated by the children and young patients of PDRC on 9:30 am. Mrs Farhana Ahmed, psychologist, PDRC conducted the workshop.

Then the formal program starts at 10:30 am with warmth reception of honourable guests with flowers by the diabetic children.

Among them special guests were Dr. Riad Mahmun Prodhan, VP and GM, Novo Nordisk, Ashrafi Ahmad, DG, National Institute of Population Research and Training(NIPORT), Prof. M K I Qayyum Chowdhury, Director General, BIRDEM, H.E Christian Brix Maller, Ambassador, Embassy of Denmark in Bangladesh, Mohammad Sayef Uddin, Secretary General, BADAS and the chief guest was National Professor AK Azad Khan, President, Diabetic Association of Bangladesh (BADAS).

Opening remarks were presented by Dr. Bedowra Zabeen, Director, BADAS Paediatric Care and Research Centre (PDRC).

After that Nowroz Kabir Prottoy,YLD Young Leader, IDF, shared his story of diabetes journey.

And Another Diabetes Advocate Md Taujl Islam Munshi, YLD Alumni and Organiser, PDRC Volunteers Team, presented the challenges of diabetes management and journey of a young diabetic person.

Afterwards Taposi Rabeya Haque, Diabetes Advocate and organiser, PDRC Volunteers Team, presented her proposals to minimise the challenges faced by a young diabetic.

At the end, honourable guests delivered their valuable speeches.
H.E Christian Brix Maller, Ambassador, Embassy of Denmark in Bangladesh, expressed his warmth feelings towards PDRC and felt pleasure that HE present King of Denmark inaugurated this centre once HE was the Prince of Denmark and wished to maintain a warmth relation with this centre.

Another special guest Mohammad Sayef Uddin, General Secretary, BADAS, mentioned that no diabetic children should die without insulin and it is their human rights.
