A field day without paddy was held at Rangpur on Tuesday to promote and expand Bina Dhan-20 and Bina Dhan-26, the short life and high yielding Aman rice varieties, developed by Bangladesh Atomic Agriculture Research Institute (BINA).
Bina Mymensingh Director General Dr. Abul Kalam Azad was the chief guest at the event held in collaboration with District Agriculture Extension Directorate at Rangpur Bina Sub-centre in Shrirampur block of Sadar Upazila.
Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Abu Md. Moniruzzaman, Bina Rangpur sub-centre officer-in-charge Dr. Mohammad Ali were the special guests. Scientific officers of Bina Md. Mahmudul Hasan and Motabber Rahman, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Mahfuzar Akhkar, farmer Mithu and others spoke on the occasion.
The speakers said these short life and high yielding Aman rice seedlings are suitable for cultivation across the country except the saline-prone areas. Cultivation method of this variety is similar to other Ufsi Ropa Aman varieties. This variety has a good bigha yield with lower production cost. These varieties take less time to produce, they added.
