Staff Reporter :

Attacks on justice seeking people and counsels for the opposing sides have been continuing in the Dhaka Judge Court premises which have become a cause of panic for the justice seekers.

Sources said a fraction of the lawyers are directly involved in these attacks and sometimes they are also hiring people from outside.

Engaged in business activities in Dhaka, three brothers, Syed Jahirul Islam Amit, Syed Shariful Islam Aunupam and Syed Mohitul Islam Ashim, on Tuesday came to Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka to appear in the hearing on a case filed against them.

But when they entered the courtroom (CMM Courtroom 3) a mob of 8-10 people who have been considered outsiders wearing helmets attacked the three brothers. The three brothers got seriously injured in the sudden attack of the mob. The mob finally fled the courtroom when a group of lawyers stood by the three brothers.

Syed Jahirul Islam Amit, one of the victims, alleged that the lawyer, Amirul Islam Amir, who represented the opposite side in their case masterminded the attack by hiring people outside of the court.

They attacked us as they were about to lose the case, he added. After the fall of Sheikh Hasina government on August 5 this year on the face of an uprising, the justice seeking people have become the subject of targeted attack by a group of lawyers and outsiders.

Among the justice seekers, there are some people who are involved with Awami League politics, but there are also some people who are not involved in politics. Opponents are attacking them with political tags.

However, Advocate Amir denied the allegation and claimed that the three brothers who appeared in the court brought some comrades with them to create chaos in the court premises. However, some eye-witness lawyers did not support his statement.

Apart from this, a series of attacks on lawyers, former ministers and parliamentarians, Awami League leaders, police officers and journalists arrested by law enforcement agencies took place on the court premises after the fall of the Awami League government.

Salman F Rahman, former private industry and investment advisor to Sheikh Hasina and Anisul Haque, former law minister, were produced before the CMM court in Dhaka on August 14 in a murder case.

Incident of attack on any accused in the court premises took place on that day for the first time after August 5. Eggs were also thrown at those two people. Attacks on the accused have been continuing since then.

Md Khorshed Miah Alam, President in Charge of Dhaka Bar Association Ad Hoc Committee, told the media that after the fall of Sheikh Hasina on August 5, some isolated incidents of attacking the accused brought by the law enforcers took place on the court premises.

However, later we have held meetings with all the stakeholders and taken steps to stop those incidents, he added.
