Severe storm and heavy rain caused widespread damage in Khagrachari, with reports of fallen trees and damaged infrastructure, leaving one person dead and four others injured.
The storm struck around 5 p.m., causing trees to collapse onto major roads, disrupting traffic for about an hour. A large tree fell across the main road near the bus terminal, while another tree crashed onto the garage shed at the District Commissioner’s office, damaging several vehicles.
One individual, identified as Babul Tripura (27), sustained serious head injuries when struck by falling debris.
The storm also affected the district’s power supply, with trees toppling over power lines in several areas, leaving Khagrachari Sadar and four other upazilas in darkness.
In the Mahalachhari area’s Kheyangsa Para, a lightning strike tragically claimed the life of one individual, injuring four others.
Fire service teams, led by Station Officer Rajesh Barua, have been actively clearing fallen trees and debris to restore road access and power connectivity.
