The Election Reform Commission is taking appropriate steps to ensure the voting rights of Bangladeshi expatriates, the commission’s chief, Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar, said on Monday.
During a meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the Chief Adviser’s Office, Dr Majumdar explained that the voters’ list is being synchronised with the national identity card database.
The Election Reform Commission is prioritising the inclusion of women in the electoral process, with necessary measures being implemented to support their participation.
Additionally, the commission is engaging stakeholders through digital platforms, actively seeking their suggestions, according to the Chief Adviser’s press wing.
Professor Yunus also held discussions with the heads of other commissions at his office in Tejgaon concerning the activities of the Reform Commission, established to drive forward state reform initiatives.
The chief adviser received an update on the progress of the Police Reform Commission from its head, Safar Raj Hossain. Mr Hossain noted that the commission is developing a proposal to reform methods of using force for crowd control.
He also highlighted that specific sections of the Code of Criminal Procedure (1898) are under review to assess the potential for modification.
Mr Hossain informed the chief adviser that a public opinion survey has been prepared and published on the commission’s website.
“Several proposals to amend certain laws and regulations have already been received and are currently under examination,” he added.
Further recommendations are being prepared to simplify certain administrative processes.
Progress on the Public Administration Reform Commission was also shared by its head, Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury. Mr Chowdhury stated that the commission’s work is now in full swing, with public feedback already collected through the website.
