The National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) has provided legal support to 11,10,036 justice seekers in 403,201 cases from the government expenditure since 2009 to September this year.
Besides, the organization has settled 2,03,032 cases in the last 15 years and also provided legal assistance to 1,21,630 prisoners during the period, according to a report released in its website on Saturday, reports BSS.
The organization has so far given 4,42,696 legal advices to the justice seekers and realized Taka nearly 217.70 crore as compensation by settling legal aid related matters and handed over the money to the victims.
The report said of the total, 28,016 received legal services from the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, 8,74,661 from 64 district legal aid offices, 28,853 from the Employees Legal Aid Office in Dhaka and Chattogram while 1,78,506 from the toll free hotline call centre.
Besides, 17,328 more people received legal service from the office before introducing the national help line, the report said adding the organization has also solved 1,29,038 cases through Alternative Dispute Resolution(ADR) service.
National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO), a statutory body of the government under the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs responsible for providing legal aid to poor Bangladeshis since 2009. The organisation was formed in 2001.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed has instructed the NLASO to appoint lawyers for the defendants in the lower courts if there is no lawyer for them.
