SA clinch Test series 2-0

South Africa (SA) clinched the two-Test series 2-0 against Bangladesh after defeating the hosts by an innings and 227 runs in the second Test cricket match at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Thursday.

Earlier, the Tigers lost to the Proteas by seven wickets in the first Test at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur, on October 24. Winning in the coin session, South Africa decided to bat first and declared their first innings making 575 for the loss of six wickets on the second day (Wednesday).

Tony de Zorzi, Tristan Stubbs and Wiaan Mulder notched up 177, 106 and 105 runs (not out) respectively. Tony was adjudged the Man of the Match. Kagiso Rabada picked up altogether 14 wickets in two Test matches. Rabada was adjudged the Man of the Series.

Bangladesh were all out for 159 in the first innings on the third day (Wednesday). Thus, Bangladesh conceded follow-on and the home side were bundled out for 143.

Bangladesh resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 38 for the loss of four wickets. Mominul Haque and Najmul Hossain Shanto resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 6 and four runs respectively.

Mominul Haque and Taijul Islam were the only batters of the hosts, who fought back against the bowling attack of South Africa.

They put on together 103 runs for ninth wicket partnership before Mominul Haque was trapped leg before wicket by Senuran Muthusamy when the Tigers’ total was 151 for the loss of nine wickets.

Mominul Haque notched up a terrific 82. His 112-ball innings was decorated with eight fours and two sixes.

After Mominul’s departure, Taijul Islam was caught & bowled out by Keshav Maharaj and Bangladesh’s first innings came to an end.
