Massive tree plantation stressed to adapt climate change

Officials and experts in a function here on Wednesday stressed on the importance of massive tree plantation to create greenery, adapt to climate change, improve the environment and benefit people financially.

They expressed the opinion at the concluding function of a fortnight-long ‘Departmental Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair -2024’ held on the Zila School ground in the city, reports BSS.

The district administration and Social Forestry Division jointly organized the fair to create awareness among people on the colossal importance of tree plantation to adapt to climate change and improve the environment.

Different government and non-governmental organisations, nursery owners and entrepreneurs had set up 56 stalls on the fairground displaying saplings of timber, fruit, medicinal and ornamental plants.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) of Rangpur Md Abdul Mannan attended the function as the chief guest with Divisional Forest Officer Mollah Mohammad Mizanur Rahman in the chair.

Superintendent of Police Mohammad Sharif Uddin, Divisional Director of the Department of Forest AKM Rafiqul Islam and Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Md Reaz Uddin spoke as special guests.

Officials and employees of the divisional, district and police administrations, the DAE, Forest Department, nursery owners, students, teachers, farmers and common people were present.

The speakers discussed the necessity of tree plantation, its economic and nutritional benefits and significance in building a green nature to cope with adverse impacts of climate change and keep the planet livable for next generations.
