Md. Anowar Habib Kazal :
Dr. Yunus led Interim Government has formed Four more commissions to reform Bangladesh on October 17, 2024 in the advisory council meeting, These are Health Reform Commission, Media Development Commission, Labour Rights Reform Commision and women Affairs Commission and appointed eminent citizens to head them.
Earlier on September 11, the interim government formed six commissions and appointed six eminent citizens to head them.
Those commissions were electoral system reform commission, police administration reform commission, Judiciary reform commission, Anti-Corruption reform commission, public administration reform commission and constitution reform commission.
The interim government took charge on August 8, three days after a student lead mass movement ousted the Awami League from office.
The Dr. yunus led government says it will make necessary reform before organizing a free, fair and inclusive election.
With these four new commissions, the interim government has so far formed 10 commissions have already been formed, but why not a commission for Education reform commission? We all know that education is the back bone of a nation.
Bangladesh Chhatra Kallayan Trust is frequently raising its voice and demanding the formation of National Education Reform Commission as soon as possible to reform the country’s education system destroyed by Autocratic AwamiLeague government.
In this regard a delegation of Bangladesh Chhatra Kalyan Trust met with Professor Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Poddar, Adviser on Primary and Mass Education, in his office room at the Bangladesh Secretariat October 9, 2024 afternoon with the aim of reforming the education system, education policy and education curriculum in Bangladesh.
During the meeting, the delegation led by Principal Nure Alam Talukder, urged the advisor to immediately set up an education reform commission for the purpose of reforming the education system of Bangladesh and emphasized on the appointment of qualified teachers in primary schools and their proper training.
The delegation told the advisor that Bangladesh Student Welfare Trust has been working on improving the quality of education and education system of the country for the last 24 years, i.e. two centuries. Therefore, the representative of Chhatra Kalyan Trust should also be included in this commission.
The executive director of Chhatra Kalyan Trust briefly highlighted the activities of the trust in the last 24 years and said that to improve the quality of education in the country, Chhatra Kalyan Trust has adopted and implemented various welfare programs for students since its establishment.
Among them, from 2001 to 2009, free textbooks were distributed among about ten target students from 6th to 9th grade all over the country. During the discussion, the executive director of the student welfare trust, the founding chairman of the trust and the former president, Professor Dr. He highlighted the special role of Yazuddin Ahmed.
Earlier a delegation of “Bangladesh Chhatra Kalyan Trust” exchanged views with the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) authorities on October 03, 2024 with a view to changing the education policy and curriculum and issuing quality textbooks. On behalf of Bangladesh Chhatra Kalyan Trust, the founder and executive director of Chhatra Kalyan Trust, Principal Nur Alam Talukdar, led the meeting.
Chairman of the textbook board Professor Dr. AKM Riazul Hasan presided over the meeting. The meeting was also addressed by Board Curriculum Expert, Member Curriculum (Secondary Education) Prof. Rabiul Kabir Chowdhury, Member Curriculum (Primary Education) Prof. AFM Sarwar Jahan, Chief Editor of the NCTB and other senior officers of the NCTB Board. In the discussion meeting, the speakers felt that a permanent education policy is necessary to formulate a complete and up-to-date education policy.
Bangladesh Chata Kallyan Trust has taken innitiative to meet with Education adviser and other adviser’s and finally to meet with Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus for implementing a commission for Education reform commission.
By this time Bangladesh Nationalist Party on October 18, 2024 demanded formation of Education Reform Commission immediately.
Former State Minister for Education A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon himself who was widely discussed in the ban on cheating in the examination hall during the BNP period, himself raised the demand at National Press Club.
He said, though 10 commissions were formed by this time by this interim government, but Education Reform Commission was not yet formed which is very unfortunate and sad. But we were expecting a permanent education reform commission. Education commission was formed several times after independence but it did not bring proper benefits.
The fascist and dictatorial Awami League government has destroyed the infrastructure of all the institutions of the country including education and judicial system in the last sixteen years. On the 5th of August, with the united efforts of all under the leadership of the student society, we were able to rid the country of fascism by expelling the dictatorial Awami League.
We have brilliant expertise teachers who are filling our country’s education sector, but those teachers are not being properly evaluated. The neighboring country has created a hub of education, where our children are going to study, through which the country’s foreign currency is also wasted.
So now the time has come to decorate the country. Since the government has constituted 10 reform commissions, it is necessary to form an education reform commission without delay. We want an education commission to be formed in this phase who will work on education reform in coordination with the Ministry of Education.
