Tigers fought back against South Africa after Bangladesh piling up a satisfactory 283 for the loss of seven wickets in a rain-interrupted Day 3 play of the first Test cricket match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Wednesday.

South Africa notched up 308 in the first innings on the second day play (Tuesday). Bangladesh scored 106 in the first innings on the opening day (Monday). Bangladesh have now 81 runs lead. Bangladesh resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 101 for the loss of three wickets.

Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mushfiqur Rahim resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 38 and 31 runs respectively. Joy could add more two runs on the third day as he was caught at the first slip by David Bedingham off Kagiso Rabada when Bangladesh’s total was 105 for the loss of four wickets.

After dismissal of Joy, Mushfiqur Rahim (33) could stay at the crease for a short period as he was bowled out by Rabada when the hosts’ score was 106 for the loss of five wickets.

Fourth-down Litton Das (7) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne off Maharaj when the home side’s total was 112 for the loss of six wickets.

Fifth-down Mehidy Hasan Miraz and sixth-down Jaker Ali salvaged their team from debacle contributing together 138 runs for the seventh wicket partnership before Jaker Ali was trapped leg before wicket by Keshav Maharaj when the Tigers’ score was 250 for the loss of seven wickets. Jaker Ali knocked a calm 58. He hit seven fours in his 111-ball innings. It was debutante Jaker Ali’s maiden half-century.

After Jaker Ali’s dismissal, Miraz and seventh-down Nayeem Hasan put on together 33 runs in the unbroken eight wicket partnership before the third day play came to an end due to bad light.

Miraz remained unbeaten with 87 runs. It was Miraz’s ninth half-century in his Test campaign. He reached the fifty-run land-mark using 94 deliveries with seven fours and a sixer. Nayeem Hasan remained unbeaten with 16 runs. Rabada and Maharaj was the day’s most successful bowlers.

Rabada captured four wickets at the cost of 35 runs, while Maharaj claimed three wickets instead of 105 runs.
