Anti-discriminition movement gets convening committee

A four-member convening committee of the anti-discrimination student movement has been announced.
Hasnat Abdullah, one of the key coordinators, has been made as the convener, while Arif Sohail will serve as the member secretary.

The other two members are Abdul Hannan Masud, who will act as chief organizer, and Umama Fatema, designated as the spokesperson for the committee.

Sarjis Alam, coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, made the announcement while speaking at the Central Shaheed Minar on Tuesday evening.

“We will complete the committee as soon as possible. This committee aims to unite all colleges, madrasahs, districts, and upazilas under one structure across the country,” Sarjis stated during the announcement.

He also confirmed the primary goals of the committee, saying, “The committee has been formed to identify those who have played a role in this mass uprising at great personal risk and to include them in the platform.”

The organisation was created on 1 July 2024. On 8 July 2024, it announced a 65-member committee, comprising 23 coordinators and 42 co-coordinators, to make the movement a success after its creation.[8][9] On 3 August, after the agitation grew in scale, the group formed a 158-member coordination team with students from various educational institutions, of which 49 were coordinators and 109 were co-coordinators.
