Legendary musician Shujeo Shyam dies

Shujeo Shyam, noted artiste, music director and composer of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, has passed away.
He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital in the capital at around 2:50am on Thursday.
He was 78 years old at the time of his death.
His daughter Rupa Manjuri confirmed the news of her father’s death to the media.
According to family sources, Shujeo Shyam was suffering from cancer for a long time.
Recently a ‘pacemaker’ was implanted in his heart. Only her diabetes was uncontrolled. He had kidney problems.
Shujeo Shyam was born on March 14, 1946 in Sylhet. He was the sixth of 10 siblings.
His father Amarendra Chandra Shah was a tea garden owner. Shujeo Shyam spent his childhood in Sylhet’s tea garden.
Among the songs composed by Shujeo Shyam, ‘Rokto Diye Nam Likhechhi’, ‘Rokto Chai Rokto Chai’, ‘Aha Dhonnyo Amar Jonmobhumi’, ‘Ayre Chashi Mojur Kuli’, ‘Muktir Eki Poth Songram’, ‘Shon Re Tora Shon’, etc are notable. Shujeo Shyam composed the last song of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra in 1971 and the first song after the surrender of the Pakistani occupation forces.
He composed and directed the music of the song titled ‘Bijoy Nishan Urchhe Oy’ written by lyricist Shahidul Amin.
He received the Ekushey Padak in 2018 for his contribution to music and before that Shilpakala Padak in 2015.
