The statement said: “We have been peacefully staging various protests, including human chains and sit-ins, for a long time to draw the government’s attention to our demand for inclusion in the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme. In continuation of this, we held peaceful human chains and sit-ins in front of the main gate of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) from October 15 to 17. On October 17, at 4:30pm, we announced our ‘March to Jamuna’ program.

“The law enforcement agencies prevented us from advancing, so we sat down on the road. During this, we offered prayers when the call for the Asr prayer was heard. After learning about the illness of the education adviser and the chief adviser, we prayed for their recovery.

“At that moment, police officers, led by DC Masud of Shahbagh police station, attacked us from behind, coming from the direction, using water cannons, sound grenades, tear gas, and indiscriminate baton charges. We strongly condemn and protest this incident and demand justice for those involved, including DC Masud.”
