6000 meters of rings, current nets siezed in Bhairab

A mobile court conducted drive at different points of the Meghna and old Brahmaputra Rivers in Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj on Wednesday.
The court also seized at least 6000 meters of rings and current nets. But the unscrupulous fish hunters fled on the news of the raid. The mobile court led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), and also Upazila Magistrate Reduan Ahmed Rafi. Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Md. Mahbubur Rahman and Bhairab Naval Police assisted. At the end of the operation, the Jabdzal was burnt and destroyed in the area adjacent to the Meghna Bridge.
According to the sources of the Fisheries Office, according to the government’s announcement, hilsa killing is prohibited for 22 consecutive days from October 13 to November 3 during the mother-hilsa conservation campaign. At this time, hilsa collection, transportation, storage, marketing, buying and selling and exchange will be completely stopped. Anyone who violates it will be punished with rigorous imprisonment for a minimum of 1 year to a maximum of 2 years or with a fine of up to five thousand taka with both.
Bhairab’s UNO Reduan Ahmed Rafi said, if mother-hilsa can be protected, reproduction will increase. The government has distributed 26 kg of rice among 800 fishermen to compensate the loss of fishermen.
