Navy detains 31 Indian fishermen in Kuakata coast

Bangladesh Navy detained 31 Indian fishermen, two fishing trawlers, seized 5 tons of hilsa in Kuakata coast.
Lt. Commander Mosiul Islam, Commanding Officer of BNS Shaheed Aktar Uddin, confirmed the matter at the jetty area of Payra port on Wednesday.
The BNS official said on Tuesday, naval warship BNS Shahid Aktar Uddin intercepted them on the Bay of Bengal near Kuakatacoast of southern Bangladesh while conducting routine operations.
The homes of the arrested are in different villages of the Chabbis-Pargona district of West Bengal province under India, the BNS official added.
A local source said that the fishermen of Bangladesh stopped fishing due to the 22-day ban imposed by the Bangladesh government to protect mother Hilsa.
Indian fishermen taking this chance freelyentered in the waters of Bangladesh boundary and started netting Hilsa.
Not only that they even entering in the water-boundary of Bangladesh by spreading fishing nets attached trawling rope to their fishing trawlers to pull the nets. Jewel Islam, OC of Kalapara police station, said, Bangladesh Navy has filed a case in this connection at Kalapara police station.
