FBCCI urges traders to be more responsible

The Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) has urged traders to act responsibly to maintain commodity prices at reasonable levels.

To monitor prices and stabilise the market, FBCCI’s market surveillance team visited the Karwan Bazar raw market on Sunday morning, led by administrator Hafizur Rahman.

During the visit, the FBCCI delegation assessed product prices and inspected the supply system. The organisation stated that it is actively working to stabilise the prices of essential goods, ensure a smooth supply chain, and prevent market manipulation.

According to the FBCCI’s monitoring, broiler chicken was being sold at Tk 200 per kilogram and golden chicken at Tk 280-300. Beef was priced at Tk 750 per kilogram, while goat meat was selling for Tk 1,000. A dozen farm eggs were priced at Tk 165.

In the vegetable section, potatoes were being sold for Tk 55 per kilogram, eggplant at Tk 80, green chilies between Tk 280-300, and local onions at Tk 110. FBCCI  reported that the price list was displayed in every shop during the inspection.

Following the market visit, Hafizur Rahman participated in a discussion meeting held at Karwan Bazar. He urged both retailers and wholesalers to act more responsibly in maintaining reasonable product prices.

The meeting was chaired by Omar Farooq, President of the Karwan Bazar Arat Traders Multipurpose Cooperative Society. Farooq assured that traders would continue cooperating with FBCCI’s regular market monitoring efforts.

Saifur Rahman Chowdhury, General Secretary of Karwan Bazar Arat Traders Multipurpose Cooperative Association, and Abu Bakkar Siddique, Secretary General of the Karwan Bazar Kitchen Market Association, were also present.

Other attendees included Imran Master, President of the Bangladesh Raw Materials Arat Malik Samiti, and Mohammad Monirul Islam, General Secretary of the same association.
