A Dhaka court on Friday placed five suspects on a four-day remand each in connection with the killing of Tanjil Jahan Islam Tamim, a broadcast officer at Deepto TV.

The five accused—Abdul Latif, Kurban Ali, Mahin, Mozammel Haque Kabir, and Badhon—were brought before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mahbub Ahmed. The police sought a seven-day remand, but the court granted four days of custody for further interrogation.

According to case documents, Tamim’s death stemmed from a longstanding dispute between his family, other landowners, and a developer company, Pleasant Properties. The dispute revolved around the handover of flats promised to the landowners.

Each landowner, including Tamim’s father, was supposed to receive five flats, but only two were handed over in 2023. Despite completing construction, the developer delayed delivering the remaining flats and even sold one of the units meant for Tamim’s father.

On October 10, Tamim was overseeing some internal work on the two flats his family had received when thugs, allegedly hired by the developer, attacked him and the workers. Tamim was brutally beaten during the altercation.

He was rushed to a local hospital by his relatives, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Following this, Tamim’s father filed a case with Hatirjheel Police Station, accusing 16 individuals of involvement in the killing.
