Jaintapur is a town famous for tourism and mineral resources. Some say it a ‘stone kingdom’. The people of Jaintapur are now living a new dream of change.
If that dream is fulfilled, Jaintapur will become an example for Sylhet. For which, its Upazila Nirbahi Officer a Umme Salik Rumya is working day and night. For her benevolent activities, she is getting praise everywhere.
Rumya wants to make Jaintapur a modern and people-friendly upazila. Since joining, she has been working with people from all walks of life for the upazila’s socio-economic development including communications, education, medical treatment, and tourism. Hundreds of people come to Jaintapur upazila every day as tourists. Jaintapur consists of six unions with an area of 266.11 sq km.
The 34th BCS Cadre Umme Salik Rumya joined as Jaintapur Upazila Nirbahi Officer on March 21 this year. She informed that bicycles have been distributed among the students to improve the quality of life of the poor people of the upazila and to increase their interest in education. Gardens are being built in front of the Upazila Parishad, efforts are being made to build gardens in front of the Jaintapur Rajbari ruins.
With this effort, the traditional Rajbari is getting a new look. About 1000 tree saplings have been planted in different places of the upazila. She has started the waste management work through Nijpat Union of the upazila. Construction of the boundary wall and classrooms of Biam School is nearing completion.
She has taken the initiative to make a garden and a rich library for children there. As there is no separate art building for cultural entertainment, efforts are being made to create a room for art and to make a children’s park for children’s entertainment.
To upgrade the populated Shapla Bill area in this the tourism-rich upazila, she installed filters and renovated the seating area along with the renovation work of the washroom. She has bought a boat for the upazila, which will enable it to reach people quickly in case of any natural calamity including floods.
There will be public suffering which will be very helpful. Rumya said that in addition to conducting regular raids in the sand palaces of the upazila, as a border area, initiatives have been taken for strict surveillance and measures increased against smugglers in this upazila.
