Sheikh Arif Bulbon :
The Full-length Film Grant Committee has been reconstituted for government grants in FY
2024-2025. This committee has been formed with 10 members under the chairmanship of Md Nahid Islam, Adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Actress Zakia Bari Mamo got a place for the first time. On behalf of the state, this actress wants to fulfill this responsibility properly. While sharing her feelings in this regard, Zakia Bari Mamo told this correspondent, “It is important for me.
The movie that will be made with the money of the people of the country should get the right people. Good movies should be made for the people of the country. I will try to prioritise this issue.”
This government grant was introduced from the financial year 1976-77 under domestic guise.
Grants are being given every year except for a few years. However, every year there are complications with the grant films. Although the time is limited, most of the movies are stuck for years. Often times artistes are seen complaining about movie grants.
Actress Mamo wants to work to eliminate the complexity of grant movies.
In this regard, Mamo told this correspondent, “I heard about various complications in the case of government grant movies. This new committee will try to avoid complications in the future. I would like to avoid the problem that artistes are facing in grant films.”
In 2007, Zakia Bari Mamo made her debut on the big screen with the movie ‘Daruchini Dwip’. After that she worked in several more movies. But Zakia Bari Mamo was never seen in government’s grant movie. Mamo’s reply to this was, “The bat-ball did not match, so I did not work in the grant film. There is no other reason. And my work in movies has been reduced.”
The newly formed Full-length Film Grant Committee will assess proposals for full-length films under the Full-Length Film Grant Policy 2020 (Revised). Along with the committee chair and secretary, the other members include the Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Managing Director of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC), Dhaka University professor Abul Bashar Md Ziaul Haque Bhuiyan, actor-director Titas Zia, filmmaker and producer Akram Khan, filmmaker Nargis Akter, Rainbow Film Society President Ahmed Muztaba Zamal, and actress Zakia Bari Mamo.
