Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, said on Sunday that the people of Bangladesh have once again affirmed their trust in the Bangladesh Army, recognizing it as a symbol of stability and reliability.

“At a time of crisis, the Bangladesh Army stood by the people and safeguarded the country from instability,” Prof. Yunus remarked while inaugurating the ‘Army Headquarters Selection Board-2024’ at the Army Headquarters as the chief guest.

He acknowledged the Army’s role in expediting the formation of an interim government during a period of unrest, helping protect the nation from chaos.

The Chief Adviser emphasized that officers with honesty, integrity, and leadership skills should be promoted, urging the selection board to prioritize these qualities in their decisions.

“Promotion should be based on professional competence, leadership, discipline, and trustworthiness, not political ideology,” he said.

The event, according to an ISPR press release, marked the first phase of promotion considerations for eligible officers to the ranks of colonel and lieutenant colonel.

He honored the memory of the soldiers and martyrs of the War of Independence, acknowledging their sacrifices, which the nation would always hold in high regard.

Upon his arrival, Prof. Yunus was welcomed by Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman, along with the special assistant on defense and national solidarity, the Chief of General Staff, and the Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division.

General Waker-Uz-Zaman expressed his gratitude to the Chief Adviser for inaugurating the selection board, despite his busy schedule.

The defense secretary and senior army officers were also present at the event.

The ceremony concluded with a photo session, followed by Prof. Yunus writing in the visitors’ book.
