Rajshahi Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (RWASA) is planning to install meters in its service connection points aimed at reducing system loss.
All water connections will be metered to ensure equity and reduce wastage upon successful implementation of the metering system, reports BSS.
RWASA authority revealed this while addressing a stakeholder workshop to mark the presentation of a draft final report of the ‘feasibility study for improvement of water supply network with district metered area system’ at Hotel X in the city on Thursday.
Institute of Water Modeling (IWM) conducted the 10-month study for building a sustainable water supply network for Rajshahi city, including an environmental and social impact assessment, for the next 25 years.
RWASA Deputy Managing Director Alla Hafiz and its Chief Engineer Pavej Mamud and Executive Engineer Iqubal Hossain, Principal of Rajshahi Medical College Prof Khandaker Faisal Alam and IWM Deputy Executive Director Engineer Sohel Masud spoke on the occasion.
Engineer Tonmoy Chaki, Senior Specialist of IWM, presented the study report detailing the RWASA’s overall water supply system along with aspects of promoting the metering system. The meeting was told that hundred percent people of Rajshahi city and its adjacent municipalities will come under the supply of drinkable water as RWASA is implementing a project to this end.
The water treatment project will be completed by 2027 with the main thrust of ensuring water quality and meeting the water deficit. Upon successful implementation of the project, 20 crore liters of purified water will be supplied to the targeted beneficiaries every day.
