Workers from two garment factories clashed and engaged in vandalism in the Zirani area of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) on Thursday morning, leading to temporary road blockages.
According to sources from industrial police and workers, employees of Radial International Limited began protesting to press for several demands. When they urged workers from the adjacent Iris Fashions Limited to join them, the latter refused. This refusal led to workers from Radial International vandalising the Iris Fashions factory.
In retaliation, Iris Fashions workers vandalised the Radial International factory, and both groups became embroiled in violent chases. During the clashes, the agitated workers blocked the Kaliakoir-Nabinagar road for a brief period, disrupting traffic.
Upon receiving information, industrial police and army personnel arrived at the scene to disperse the crowd, restoring normal traffic flow by around 10:00 a.m.
Gazipur Industrial Police Superintendent Mohammad Sarwar Alam stated that efforts were underway to mediate between the workers. He added that eight factories in the district were shut down on Thursday in response to the unrest.
