The general point-to-point inflation rate in Bangladesh eased slightly in September, falling to 9.92 percent from 10.49 percent in August.

However, inflation has remained stubbornly above 9 percent since March 2023, reflecting persistently high prices.

Food inflation, although slightly lower, remains over 10 percent. In September, it stood at 10.40 percent, a decrease from the 12.54 percent recorded in August. This marks the second consecutive month of declining inflation during the interim government.

The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) reported in its latest update that the overall inflation rate dipped to 9.92 percent in September, compared to 10.49 percent in August. July’s inflation of 11.66 percent was the highest recorded in recent years.

The non-food inflation rate also saw a slight drop, falling to 9.50 percent in September from 9.74 percent in August 2024, according to the BBS report.

Inflation in both urban and rural areas also declined. In rural areas, the point-to-point inflation rate was 10.15 percent in September, down from 10.95 percent in August. Urban areas saw a smaller decrease, with inflation falling to 9.83 percent in September from 10.01 percent the previous month.

Despite the high inflation, the wage rate index showed a modest improvement in September, increasing to 8.01 percent from 7.96 percent in August 2024. This increase could provide some relief to workers amid ongoing high prices.
